More than one billion people live without clean water on our planet.
The community in Nabeki, Mount Elgon also have no clean water. There is a stream that runs through the village - it's used for drinking water, for washing clothes, for bathing. And when there's too much rain, sewerage from the land runs into the stream.
Children experience diarrhoea and vomiting illnesses regularly. Cholera is not uncommon in the area. Last year more than a dozen people died following a cholera outbreak.
More latrines need to be built - they don't cost a lot. The community also needs a well - but this is going to cost a lot of money. Because of the mountainous region, getting the equipment to the area to create a bore-hole will be expensive. We're anticipating that it may cost in the region of £12,000 to build a bore-hole (well).
Will you help us provide clean water and good sanitation for the village of Nabeki?
